1. Use chalk to draw a hopscotch pattern on the ground outside or use masking tape on the floor inside.
2. Create a diagram with eight square sections and number them each by 2s, 5s, or 10s.
3. Each player has a marker such as a stone, bottlecap, shell, button, etc. Players hop in single squares with one foot (either foot is fine), and use two feet for the side by side squares, one in each square.
4. Upon completion of the hop sequence, the player continues their turn, tossing the marker into square number two and repeating the pattern.
5. Once you’re more comfortable hopping in each square, try reading and counting the numbers allowed, while jumping in the squares.
6. Try changing the numbers from 2s to 5s or from 5s to 10s.
7. Try adding more square sections. Then repeat until you’re comfortable counting.
